Welcome, welcome, welcome!! This new blog is going to be one of pleasure and excitement, adventure and magic!! A new blog dedicated to My Celtic Journey and the landscape of stories, history and true life people making up the fabric of my lineage. As my search for more pieces of the puzzle that is my ancestry, the journey will only get richer indeed!
If you have been following my other blog Running, flutes and mindfulness then part of this is already known. After starting my genealogy work almost a decade ago, a manila folder filled with documents and sheets in hand, it has culminated in this year's DNA results finally providing reasonably accurate ancestry. Looking back on all of these amazing and not so amazing people in my past really provides a glimpse for me that takes me back, allows me to see each person as that, an individual.
To get started, here is a snapshot of what my DNA says, according to Ancestry and 23 and Me...
Ancestry DNA results:
Europe: 96%
Europe West 58%
Ireland 16%
Italy/Greece 13%
Iberia 4%
European Jewish 2%
( Europe West also includes the British Isles, Scotland,Ireland,Wales)
23 and me results:
Europe: 97.9%
Europe NW 81.4%
British,Scottish,Irish 36.4%
French and German 17.4%
Scandinavia 2.9%
Southern European 14.6%
Italian 9.4%
Iberian 1.0%
Balkan 0.6%
So as you can see, the results are not too far apart, though they don't necessarily link up with the facts and the family tree. People migrate, immigrate and move around a lot. Some of the estimates are for areas I have no history of, no lineage or ancestry. but that doesn't mean a member or members of my family didn't originate there! That is what makes this so interesting! Though, as the title suggests, the vast majority of my lineage hails from Celtic countries and regions, like the British Isles (England,Ireland,Scotland,Wales), Germany and the upper northern European continent. These are the ones i shall concentrate on and delve into. That being said, onward I go to the first person of note in my ancestry!
